When doing a select on a field where exists a character from ascii 128 and above using the SqlDbx Unicode version on a non unicode server (ASE 12.5.0.3, charset latin-1), the following error occurs: ct_fetch(): user api layer: internal common library error: The bind of result set item 1 failed. The cause of failure is unknown.
No problem occurs using the non unicode version. And no problem occurs using the unicode version on a Unicode 3.1 UTF-8 (ASE 15.0.1) charset.

What version of Sybase client are you using?

15.0.3 but my colleague use 15.0.1 with the same problem.
